About Ellie

Hello and welcome to Yummy Mummy Cooks! I’m Ellie and I am passionate about creating delicious home-cooking for my family and friends.

I understand that preparing a home-cooked meal on a daily basis can feel like a real chore, (especially one that everyone will eat). That’s why my recipes are simple, easy to follow and don’t use a long list of ingredients.

My motivation for cooking

I’m a busy, working parent myself so I understand that there’s no silver bullet for being short on time. I’m always looking for simple recipes and short-cuts to help me save time in the kitchen.  I believe in encouraging good eating habits and educating kids about food, yet this sometimes feels impossible with my busy schedule.

How it all began

I was fortunate to have a Mum who taught me the basics in the kitchen. Having that foundation when I left home gave me the confidence to experiment with different recipes.  Sadly, cookery has long been neglected on the school curriculum, favouring academic subjects over practical ones which has led to so many people without the skills to prepare a meal from scratch.

I’ve spent 20 years reading cookbooks and watching cooking shows. A couple of years ago, I attended a course at Ashburton Cookery School in Devon to learn some advanced skills and techniques. It sparked something in me and I start thinking of ways I could share my passion with others. The idea for Yummy Mummy Cooks was conceived and after a couple of years (and a crisis of confidence of my technical skills!) my blog was born.

The inspiration behind the name…

So why ‘Yummy Mummy Cooks’? Well I’m certainly not bold enough to consider myself a ‘yummy mummy’ – the ‘yummy’ is a reference to the food! Although, being able to whip up a delicious dinner quickly definitely helps with your ‘Supermum’ status!

You can do it!

No-one is born a great cook. So, whether you’re a cooking catastrophe or someone searching for inspiration to expand your repertoire in the kitchen, I’m here to help you prepare simple, delicious, family-friendly meals.

I look forward to getting to know you – I hope Yummy Mummy Cooks helps you progress on your own cooking adventure…
